Incheon Nat’l Univ expands ties with American colleges and universities to promote WURI

A delegation of South Korea’s Incheon National University, led by President Cho Dong-sung, participated in an annual gathering of American higher institutions which kicked off in Washington on Jan. 22.  

The four-day 106th Association of American Colleges and Universities (AAC&U) meeting was held under the theme of “Shaping the Future of Higher Education.”

 

During the meeting, President Cho was invited to the Presidents’ Trust Symposium, where heads of some 90 universities around the globe shared ideas on designing a new measure to evaluate the competitiveness of institutions, dubbed the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI).

 

Cho also urged the participants to join forces in the establishment of the Hanseatic League of Universities (HLU).

 

The participating leaders of the universities echoed the view, saying the WURI and the HLU will pave the way for the global institutions to foster more innovative and creative programs under their wing.

Shin heads to Thailand, promote innovative WURI evaluation system

Professor Shin Kwang-sup of Graduate School of Logistics at Incheon National University visited Thailand in January to promote a new innovative assessment system for higher-education institutions. 

 

During the week-long visit to the Southeast Asian country from Jan. 22 to Feb. 2, Shin introduced the World Universities with Real Impact (WURI) to a network of universities of the 10-member Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

 

Major participants of the gathering with the ASEAN University Network (AUN) including Executive Director (Dr. Choltis Dhirathiti), and Korn Ratanagosoom, who heads the AUN-QA and Education Development.

During his trip, Shin also paid a visit to Burapha University, where he encouraged the university to lend hands to the WURI system.

 

Participants of this meeting were: Dr. Jittima Charoenpanich (Vice President for Research and Innovation), Dr. Punwalai Kewara (Assistant President for International Affairs), Dr. Karoon Suksonghong (Assistant President for Development Planning), Dr. Chompnut Amchang, and Dr. Juthatip Suraraksa (Lecturer with Faculty of Logistics).

 

Officials from Burapha University said they are positively considering joining the WURI system, and expressed hope over further academic ties with Incheon National University.
